0:00 We often try to stop negative thoughts, but that’s actually really difficult. There’s a much easier way. You don’t remove the thought, you replace it. You ever caught a thought right as it begins to pull you out of where you actually want to be. It’s really important. This moment matters a lot. The more you can catch this, the more you can do this because that’s where the shift can happen.

0:26 A lot of people get caught in lower energy thoughts, lower frequency states, stress, fear, frustration, doubt. And once that loop starts, it can build quickly. One thought becomes five and before you know it, your whole state has changed.

0:48 Most people try to fight that or force it to go away. But it’s very hard to remove a thought. It’s much easier to replace one. That’s the practice.

0:57 Every time something comes up that pulls you out of alignment, you consciously replace it with something stronger, a higher energy state, gratitude, love, laughter, something real. Come back to that gratitude and love. A special person in your life, your kids, your partner, your pets, a moment that felt magical, something that made you feel alive and connected. The fact that you get to be here right now, something you can actually connect to and feel, not just a thought, an actual shift in your state because higher energy states have more pull and more strength.

1:41 So when you introduce them, they begin to override the lower patterns. And this works better and better over time as you continue to practice it. Here’s what that looks like.

1:51 First you simply notice the thought. No judgment, just awareness. You caught it. Then immediately you replace it with something real. As we talked about gratitude and love, something that shifts your state and you actually feel it. And you do this every time you catch the loop. This is something you can do all day in real time as things come up.

2:19 Just replacing them. one at a time. And over time, there’s less and less that needs to be replaced. And over time, your baseline begins to shift. You spend less time getting pulled into those loops. So, you’re not trying to force it out. You’re simply replacing it one thought at a time with that higher energy state.

2:44 And over time, you just stop feeding what doesn’t serve you. And you start coming back to where you actually want to be. And you begin to remember who you really are beneath those thoughts.

Overview

You don't have to remove the thought. You can replace it.

Have you ever noticed how quickly one thought can change your entire state? Something comes up, you follow it, and suddenly one thought has become five. Now you’re somewhere completely different from where you were a moment ago.

I’ve found that trying to force a thought away usually makes this harder. It’s much easier to replace it. First, notice that you caught the loop. No judgment. Then bring in something real — gratitude, love, laughter, someone you care about, a memory that made you feel alive. Don’t just think about it. Let yourself actually feel it. Then see what happens.

What To Notice

Notice it. Replace it. Feel what changes.

01
The moment you catch it matters

See if you can notice the thought right as it begins pulling you somewhere you don’t want to go. That moment matters, because that’s where you have a choice.

02
Don't fight what you can replace

It’s really hard to tell yourself not to think something. Instead of wrestling with the thought, notice that it’s there and choose what you want to bring in next.

03
Choose something real

Come back to gratitude, love, laughter, your kids, your partner, your pets, a moment that felt magical — anything you can genuinely connect to and feel.

04
Actually feel it

This isn’t about replacing one sentence in your head with another. Let the memory or feeling become real enough that you can notice your state begin to change.

05
Practice it in real time

You can do this all day as things come up. Catch the loop. Replace it. Come back. One thought at a time. The more you practice it, the easier it becomes to return.

06
Your baseline begins to shift

Over time, there’s less and less that needs to be replaced. You spend less time inside the old loops and more time in the state you actually want to live from.

SIT WITH THIS

Try It For Yourself

There are no correct answers. Don’t write what you think you’re supposed to say. Just notice what genuinely feels true for you.

01

What thought pulled you out of where you actually wanted to be today?

02

What happened after you gave that thought your attention? Did one thought become five?

03

Can you notice the first moment the loop begins — before it completely changes your state?

04

What is something real you can return to that brings up gratitude, love, laughter, or connection for you?

05

When you really connect to that person, memory, or feeling, what changes inside you?

06

What do you notice when you stop feeding the old loop and come back to what actually feels true?

Try This: For the rest of today, see if you can catch one loop right when it begins. Don’t judge it and don’t argue with it. Just notice it. Then bring in something real — gratitude, love, laughter, a person you care about, a moment that made you feel alive. Let yourself actually feel it for a few breaths. Then come back to what’s in front of you. One thought at a time.

1.

Cat & Mouse Method — notice the thought as it appears instead of automatically following it.

2.

Replacement Loop — when you catch the loop, bring in something real that shifts your state.

3.

Single Point Focus — begin placing your full attention on what is actually in front of you.

Trunk → Awareness → Five Mind Tools

The Cat & Mouse Method is where you begin noticing the thought as it appears. The Replacement Loop is what you can do once you catch it. Instead of letting the thought decide where your mind goes next, you bring your attention back intentionally and see how your state changes. From there, the next tools keep building your ability to place your attention where you actually want it.
